What is happening to the Netscape web portal?

Netscape is moving away from being a general interest portal to a more specialized format which will be announced later this year.

Why is HP transitioning its default homepage from Netscape to AOL?

Do I have to be a paying member of AOL to use the new homepage?

No. The new Compaq Homepage by AOL is free and is linked to AOL.com — the free web portal is available to everyone with a computer and Internet connection.

When is the HP move to AOL?

Starting on May 10, 2006, you can preview the new Compaq Homepage by AOL by clicking on any of the promotions featured on the hp/Netscape homepage or by going to hp.aol.com.

On June 8th, you'll automatically be taken to the new Compaq Homepage by AOL.

What if I choose not to migrate?

On June 8th, all HP customers will be automatically migrated to the new HP Homepage by AOL and it will become the default homepage.

How do I set another homepage as my default?

HP customers can change their default homepage through Windows’ Control Panel in the Network and Internet Connections section.

What will happen to my Netscape web portal bookmarks?

Bookmarks to the current Netscape site will automatically be transitioned to AOL.com

What will happen to my Netscape e-mail?

Netscape mail will be accessible through the HP Homepage by AOL. Just click on the text link that says, Netscape Mail Sign-in.

HP customers wishing to create new e-mail accounts can take advantage of AOL.com’s FREE e-mail. AOL’s webmail service comes with 2 GB storage and is accessible from any computer with an Internet connection. AOL’s webmail is IMAP-compliant so it can be accessed with Microsoft Outlook or other mail clients.

The AIM®service is also accessible through the new HP Homepage by AOL. So, with one log in, HP customers have access to both their e-mail and instant messaging. AIM users can see who’s online in the buddy list window, start or join buddy chats, and block members.
